The new Women's and Children's Hospital is to be built on Port Road Adelaide on a site that includes Thebarton Police Barracks.
This means that after 107 years at the Thebarton Barracks SAPOL will be moving 15 business units to new sites.
Whilst the Barracks holds historical significance for SAPOL, this announcement creates an opportunity to move the 15 business units to new fit for purpose sites in 2024.
The Mounted Operations Unit (MOU) and Dog Operations Unit (DOU) are moving as part of this relocation. A new permanent home for these two units is being built at Gepps Cross and a staging post is being created in the Adelaide CBD to ensure MOU and DOU can continue to undertake their operational duties ensuring safer communities.
The beloved Band of South Australia Police is another unit taking up residence at the new Gepps Cross complex.
The State Government has committed $100 million to the construction of these two sites to ensure SAPOL can continue to meet our operational needs.
