Gepps Cross

The new homebase for our police greys and dogs

In September 2023, the State Government announced a new custom-built facility would be constructed for Mounted Operations Unit (MOU) and Dog Operations Unit (DOU) on a 10.5ha site on Grand Junction Road, Gepps Cross.

Construction is now underway at the Gepps Cross site, with its design dedicated to the unique needs of the police greys and, dogs while supporting the work our staff do in looking after these beloved animals. The modern build will ensure animal and human welfare and safety requirements can be met at the facility. Green space has been included in the design to allow for the animals to have recovery time after working and to improve the capacity for training for a diverse range of scenarios.

While a key concern for SAPOL was maintaining close proximity to the CBD for MOU and DOU to undertake their duties, a suitable site was not located in the CBD area. The Gepps Cross site will be used as a homebase for the two units and a city staging post will allow MOU and DOU to undertake their duties as and when required. The city staging post is being constructed concurrently with the Gepps Cross site.
