Reconciliation is a journey for all of us as individuals, communities, and as an organisation. It is about strengthening respectful relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the broader Australian community through our hearts, minds and actions.
It is a time for us to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements and reflect on how each of us can contribute towards reconciliation in Australia.
Celebrated each year from 27 May to 3 June, the event recognises two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey – the successful 1967 referendum, and the High Court Native Title Mabo decision respectively.
The National Reconciliation Week (NRW) theme for 2021, "More than a word. Reconciliation takes action", urges us towards taking braver and more impactful actions.
SAPOL and the NHW are committed to meaningful action towards our ongoing reconciliation journey. We strive to raise our cultural awareness, enhance our cultural sensitivity and provide cultural safety for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through SAPOL's Cultural Capability program, Connections and the development and implementation of SAPOL's latest Reconciliation Action Plan.
SAPOL and the NHW are proud to commemorate NRW 2021 in a number of ways, including:
Keep an eye on SAPOL's Facebook and Instagram page for further NRW activities and stories.
Along with a host of information and resources, there are hundreds of NRW events registered on the Reconciliation Australia website which we encourage you to research and participate in.
