The SA Police Historical Society is holding Open Days this Saturday (21 May) and Sunday (22 May), 1-4:00pm. Taking place at the SA Police Museum at Thebarton Police Barracks, everyone is invited to tour the museum to learn about SAPOL’s rich history.

Usually the museum is only open to booked, guided tours but to celebrate History Month, the Society’s volunteers are giving their time to ensure as many people as possible can make their way through the museum over the two days.

Bill Prior, President of the SA Police Historical Society explains why you should visit: “With South Australia Police being the oldest State Police Force in Australia, having been established on 28 April 1838. The collections in the museum tell not just the story of the development of the Police force, but much about the development of South Australia”.

The museum boasts some fantastic new displays including a new Police Dog Squad display, and new information about the International Policing Deployments for the Christchurch Earthquake.

“We’re very proud to participate in History Month” Bill says, “This event has been cancelled for the past two years due to COVID Restrictions.  During that time we’ve taken the opportunity to completely redevelop our museum and there are now many new and exciting displays. Even if you have previously visited, I know you will find the new and refurbished displays very interesting”.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

All persons entering SAPOL premises must be fully vaccinated. People entering may be required to display evidence that they have had the necessary vaccinations. Unvaccinated people will be required to undertake a RAT Test prior to entry.

There is no advance booking required.

$10 for adults.
