Scams Awareness Week is a national campaign, that aims to reduce the impact of scams by raising awareness and encouraging the public to talk about them.
Taking place between 8-12 November 2021, the week aims to educate and empower consumers to protect their personal and financial information in an increasingly digital environment.
This year’s theme focuses on encouraging dialogue about scams and their impact - “Let’s talk scams”.
In 2020 Australians lost over $851 million to scams, a record amount. Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) Deputy Chair Delia Rickard says: “Last year, scam victims reported the biggest losses we have seen, but worse, we expect the real losses will be even higher, as many people don’t report these scams.”
