After recently turning 101, Wilfred ‘Wilf’ Taylor decided it was time to step down from his role as a Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) volunteer after 30 years.

Wilf’s joined the Reynella Neighbourhood Watch group in 1997. From delivering newsletters to hosting crime prevention awareness events, he enjoyed ‘doing his bit’ for the community.

Wilf said he continues to encourage others to volunteer and embrace valuable opportunities.

“NHW gave me something to do, kept me active, allowed me to make new friends, and made me feel, like I was helping my community,” he said.

Dianne Harvey, Coordinator of the Reynella NHW said, "Wilf has been a loyal volunteer and echoes to show that age is just a number".

She added that volunteering for NHW was not a huge commitment. “Meetings are held after-hours to accommodate working individuals, and we only meet once every three months,” she said.

“Whether you’re a mother with young children or a bit older and want to help keep an eye on what’s happening around the place, volunteering with NHW is very rewarding and we definitely encourage younger people to join.”
