Weekend traffic offences in the Barossa

The following drivers were caught out in the Barossa Local Service Area over the weekend.

About 6.10pm on Saturday 14 December, Nuriootpa Police were conducting mobile driver testing on Murray Street when they stopped a 36-year-old Nuriootpa woman. Checks revealed the woman was currently disqualified from driving. She was reported and her car impounded. She will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.

About 7.30pm on Saturday 14 December, Nuriootpa Police were conducting static driver testing on Murray Street, Tanunda, when they breath tested a 48-year-old Redwood Park man. He allegedly returned a positive reading of 0.106. He was reported and his vehicle impounded. He was issued with a six-month loss of licence. He will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.

About 5.30pm on Sunday 15 December, Nuriootpa Police noticed a Toyota Yaris bearing homemade number plates. Police were able to stop the car and speak to the driver, a 45-year-old Keyneton man. Police checks identified that the vehicle was a stolen and that the driver was unlicenced. He was arrested and bailed to attend the Tanunda Magistrates Court on 14 January 2025 regarding illegal use of motor vehicle and driving unauthorised.

The man also tested positive to driving with methamphetamine and cannabis in his system. He lost his licence on the spot for three months and his sample will be sent to FSSA for further testing.

About 8.40pm on Sunday 15 December, Nuriootpa Patrols were conducting speed detection on Cricks Mill Road, at Mount Pleasant, when they detected a Holden sedan travelling at 121 km/h in the 80km/h zone. A 20-year-old man from Hewett was issued with an expiation notice regarding his speed.

Police will be out and about over the holiday period and remind motorists they can be stopped at any time and any location for testing. Not only are you risking your own life by drink or drug driving but you are putting the lives of innocent members of the public at risk.
