Man arrested after purse theft

22 Jun 2024 6:30am

A man was arrested after allegedly snatching a purse off a woman in a city pub overnight.

The victim was playing the pokies at a hotel in Gouger Street, Adelaide about 1.20am on Saturday 22 June when a man allegedly grabbed her purse, containing cards and cash, and ran off.

Police were able to track the fleeing suspect using CCTV along Gouger Street to Victoria Square, where he was swiftly arrested.

It will be alleged the man was found in possession of the victim's cash and cards but appears to have discarded the purse.  He was also found to have a knife and other suspected stolen cards.

The 23-year-old Elizabeth East man was charged with theft, carry offensive weapon and unlawful possession.  He was refused police bail and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday.
