Roof top arrest at Gilberton

A man has been arrested with the aid of the MFS after extensive negotiations.

About 8.30pm Saturday 9 June, Police, together with Dog Operations attended a unit complex in Gilberton to investigate a domestic incident.

Police located the suspect, a 42-year-old Gilberton man in the unit and attempted to engage with him before he climbed onto a balcony and then scaled adjoining units onto the roof off the complex.

The man refused to come down and threw roof tiles from the roof.

Negotiators, STAR and PolAir attended the scene and the MFS were also called in to assist.

After extensive negotiations to safely resolve the incident the man surrendered to police at 2.30am on Sunday morning and was brought to safety with the aid of the MFS rescue ladder.

The man was arrested for assault, breaching an intervention order and possession of a controlled drug. The investigation is continuing, and further charges may be laid.

The man has not applied for bail at this time.
