Thief caught on pushbike

A man has been arrested after allegedly smashing a car window and trying to flee on a pushbike.

About 4.20am on Tuesday 26 November, patrols were called to Grand Junction Road at Gilles Plains after reports a person smashed a car window and stole a handbag from inside.

The victim provided CCTV footage of the suspect and patrols quickly set up cordons and scoured the area.

PD Axe and his handler were called in to assist with the search and tracked a scent however he was unable to locate the suspect.  On their way back to the scene the handler spotted a person on a push bike heading towards him who matched the description of the suspect.

The man aged in his mid 30s of no fixed address was arrested without incident.  The man was still in possession of the stolen property which was returned to the owner.  The man will be charged with illegal interference, property damage and theft.  He is likely to appear in Adelaide Magistrates Court today (Tuesday 26 November).
