Thief thwarted by tracking device

16 Apr 2025 6:33am

A man has been arrested following the break-in and theft of items from a city apartment earlier this morning.

About 3.30am on Wednesday 16 April, patrols were called to Veale Lane in Adelaide, after reports of a break in at a residential unit.

Fortunately, no one was home at the time of the break which occurred a short time earlier.

The residents had a number of items stolen from inside their unit including a laptop and backpack.

The backpack contained a tracking device in it and the owner was providing live updates on the movement of the bag.

Just after 5am patrols located a man on Hindley Street in possession of a backpack matching the description provided by the victim.  Patrols searched the bag and located the stolen items and subsequently arrested the man, a 44-year-old from Davoren Park, and charged him with theft.   He was granted police bail to appear in Adelaide Magistrates Court on 4 June.

Investigations into the break-in are ongoing and anyone with information that may assist are asked to contact Crime Stoppers.  You can anonymously provide information to Crime Stoppers online at https://crimestopperssa.com.au or free call 1800 333 000.
