Traffic stop uncovers drugs and weapons in Athelstone

Two men have been arrested after a traffic stop led to drugs and weapons being found at Athelstone.

It will be alleged that about 5.45pm on Wednesday 12 March, police stopped a Ford station wagon in relation to traffic offences, after checks showed his licence was disqualified.

A search of the man’s car uncovered a backpack containing over a kilogram of cannabis.

A further search of the man’s house uncovered a hydroponic cannabis crop with nine plants, prescribed equipment including lighting, shades and power boxes, a crossbow, knuckle dusters, a flick knife, cash and ice pipes.

Electricity was also being illegally diverted to the house to power the equipment used in the cannabis crop.

The driver of the car, a 38-year-old Athelstone man was charged with numerous offences including cultivating cannabis, possess prohibited weapon and drive while disqualified. He was refused bail and appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court today.

Another man at the property, a 31-year-old Athelstone man was also charged with cultivating cannabis and interfere with electricity supply. He was bailed to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on 30 April.
