08 Dec 2024 6:05pm

A driver was arrested after a police pursuit at Whyalla overnight.

About 12.30am on Sunday 8 December, a Highway Patrol attempted to stop a Suzuki hatch on Cartledge Avenue, Whyalla Norrie for mobile driver testing.  The Suzuki failed to stop and was pursued by police through the Barrie Robram Gate into the Legends Estate, where a rear passenger jumped out of the car.

When the patrol followed the Suzuki into Neil Kerley Court, a dead-end street, the Suzuki turned around and collided head on with the patrol car.  Fortunately, there were no injuries.

The Suzuki broke down a short distance away and the driver and passengers were all quickly located by patrols.

A search of the Suzuki allegedly uncovered cash, mobile phones, drugs and drug paraphernalia.

The rear passenger, a 32-year-old Whyalla Stuart man, was reported for failing to truly answer questions.  He will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.

The driver, a 40-year-old Whyalla Norrie woman, was arrested and charged with engage in a police pursuit, drive unlicensed, drug trafficking and breach of bail.  She also tested positive to methamphetamine and cannabis.  The sample was sent for forensic testing.

She was refused police bail and will appear in the Whyalla Magistrates Court tomorrow, Monday 9 December.

The front seat passenger was a child, who was returned home and to the care of family.

The vehicle was impounded for 28 days.
