Drug riders on the Eyre Peninsula

Two motorbike riders tested positive to methamphetamine yesterday on the Eyre Peninsula.

Just before 1.30pm on Thursday 13 March, police travelling on Stevenson Street at Port Lincoln detected a Honda motorcycle not bearing registration plates.

Police stopped the rider, a 47-year-old local man, and had a conversation with him.  Checks revealed the man has never held a motorcycle licence and his bike was unregistered and uninsured.  He submitted to a drug test and provided a positive result to methamphetamine.

His bike was impounded for 28 days and he was issued a three month immediate loss of licence

The man was arrested and charged with traffic offences, he was granted police bail to appear in Port Lincoln Magistrates Court on 4 June.

About 7pm on the same day, police stopped a Suzuki motorbike on McGee Street in Whyalla for a mobile rider test.  Checks showed the bike was unregistered and uninsured and the man has never held a motorcycle licence.

The rider, a 53-year-old man from Whyalla Stuart screened positive to methamphetamine.

His Suzuki was impounded for 28 days and he was served with a three-month instant loss of licence.  He was reported for the above offences and will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.
