Suspect and stolen car sought after incidents at Whyalla

20 Oct 2024 7:13pm

Police have arrested two men and are looking for a third following an altercation at a Whyalla home this morning.

Just before 9am on Sunday 20 October, three armed men attended a home on Bradford Street and smashed windows and CCTV cameras. They also caused damage to the front door before doing a burn out and driving off in a silver Honda CRV.

Two of the three men were known to the victim.

Police located the suspect vehicle in the driveway of a nearby home and recognised it to be stolen. As police pulled up behind the car, the driver immediately reversed and rammed the police vehicle before driving off. It was pursued briefly but was lost sight of shortly later.

A number of patrols searched the area but were not able to locate the stolen Honda.

Police returned to the property and arrested two men after they were identified as being involved in the earlier incident.

Police will allege that during the arrest of one suspect, an officer was punched in the face causing minor bruising. He was medically assessed at the hospital but no serious injury was reported.

A 25-year-old man from Port Lincoln was charged with property damage, assault police and hinder/resist police. He was refused bail and will appear in the Whyalla Magistrates Court tomorrow.

A 31-year-old man from Whyalla Norrie was charged with misuse of a motor vehicle and drive disqualified. He was bailed to appear in the Whyalla Magistrates Court on 19 November.

Police are still searching for the third suspect along with the stolen silver Honda CRV. The Honda was bearing unassigned plates with a VIC number plate on the front and an SA number plate on the rear. The Honda was reported stolen from Findon a month ago.

Anyone with information on the incident or the whereabouts of the stolen vehicle are asked to contact Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers at www.crimestopperssa.com.au/ or on 1800 333 000. You can remain anonymous.
