25 Jun 2024 1:05pm

A group of teenagers have been arrested following the theft of vehicles in the Port Augusta area this week.

On Sunday 23 June a home was broken into at Port Augusta and a Mitsubishi SUV stolen.

A short time later police spotted the vehicle travelling south on the Augusta Highway and followed the car as it travelled towards Port Pirie.

Police successfully spiked the vehicle on the Highway and the car stopped at the side of the road. The driver and two passengers fled from the scene.

The driver, a 13-year-old boy and a passenger, a 15-year-old boy both from Port Augusta West were caught a short distance away. They have been charged with illegal use, serious criminal trespass and breach of bail.

The third male who ran from the car was unable to be located at the time.

At 3.40am, Monday 24 June, a Ford sedan was stolen from Napperby address and later found dumped at Port Augusta West.

At 5.40am a home in Risdon Park was broken into and a Mitsubishi SUV stolen and later found dumped in Balfour Street.

Witnesses reported seeing three boys run from the dumped vehicle.

Patrols cordoned the area and located three suspects, two boys aged 13 and one aged 15 years.

They were arrested and have been charged with illegal use unlawfully on premises and breach of bail.

It will be alleged that one of the group was the third male who fled the earlier stolen car at Port Pirie.

All have appeared before the Port Pirie Magistrates Court.
