Police remind the community to lock-up their homes and vehicles

Port Augusta police are urging the community to be vigilant and review the security of their vehicles and homes after recent reports of thefts in the Port Augusta area.

Between Wednesday 11 September and Monday 16 September, police received numerous reports of attempted break-ins and thefts on Holtan Court, Glyde Street, Frome Street, William Street and a local Church.

To reduce the opportunity for thieves to gain entry into your home, consider the following tips:

  • Ensure appropriated keyed locks are fitted to all doors and windows
  • Be sure to lock all doors and windows, gates, garages and sheds when not in use.
  • House keys, car keys and garage remotes should be kept in a safe location.
  • Install an alarm system.
  • Don’t leave valuables in obvious placed.
  • Lock your meter box.

To help prevent thieves targeting your vehicle, consider these security tips:

  • Lock your vehicle doors and close all windows
  • Park your vehicle in a well-lit area at night
  • Park off the road and if possible in a locked garage
  • Remove all valuable from your vehicle
  • Remove keys from the ignition, even if you are gone for a short time.

Police urge residents to report any suspicious behaviour around homes and cars at the time by calling Police at 131 444. Anyone with information on these incidents is asked to contact Crime Stoppers.
