Update: House fire at Woodville Gardens

Police are investigating after a person was found deceased inside a house fire at Woodville Gardens overnight.

Just after 4am on Thursday 7 November, police and emergency services were called to a house in Essex Street, Woodville Gardens after a passerby noticed an orange glow emanating from the premises.

Firefighters entered the house and located a person deceased inside, believed to be the 72-year-old male resident.  

The house suffered considerable fire damage.

A dog was found unharmed in the rear yard.

Major Crime Detectives with the assistance of Western District Detectives, patrol members, Crime Scene Investigators and Fire Cause Investigators are working to establish the cause of the fire and death which may take a number of days.

Investigators would like to hear from anyone who saw any suspicious activity or has CCTV or dashcam footage of Essex Street or surrounding streets during the evening of Wednesday 6 November and the early hours of Thursday 7 November.
