Drink driver crashes on freeway

20 Jun 2024 9:20pm

A drink driver was involved in a crash on the freeway this evening.

Police were called to a two-car crash on the South Eastern Freeway at Hahndorf just before 7pm on Thursday 20 June.

It will be alleged the driver of a Hyundai SUV was travelling in the right-hand lane on the freeway and collided with another vehicle travelling in the left lane when she attempted to change lanes.

The driver, a 40-year-old Mount Barker woman, recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.176 – more than three times the legal limit.

Thankfully, neither she nor the elderly couple, a man and woman both aged 87, in the other vehicle were injured.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

The woman was reported for drink driving and changing lanes to danger and issued with a 12-month instant loss of licence.

She will be summonsed to appear in the Mount Barker Magistrates Court at a later date.
