Five drivers have been caught under the influence by Limestone Coast Police over the long weekend.
About 1pm on Friday 24 January, police were called to Makin Road at Keith after a minor hit-run collision.
Police later attended a nearby address and spoke to a 40-year-old man who was suspected of being the driver involved in the crash. He underwent a breath test and returned a positive reading of 0.219. he was reported for drink-driving, he was issued with a 12-month immediate loss of licence notice and his vehicle was impounded for 28 days. He will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.
About 7.40pm on Friday 24 January, police stopped a 24-year-old man from Cheltenham while he was driving on Pascoe Road at Port Macdonnell for a random driver test. He returned a positive reading of 0.135 and was reported for drink-driving. He was issued with a six-month immediate loss of licence notice and will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.
About 10.45am on Saturday 25 January, police stopped a 23-year-old Carpenter Rocks man while he was driving on Mount Salt Road at Mount Schank, for a random driver test.
He returned a positive reading of 0.165 and was reported for drink-driving, he was issued with a 12-month immediate loss of licence notice and his vehicle was impounded for 28 days. He will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.
About 1.52pm on Sunday 26 January, police stopped a 36-year-old Mount Gambier man riding a motorcycle on the Riddoch Highway at Mount Schank for a random driver test. He returned a positive result for cannabis and was issued with a three-month immediate loss of licence notice, and was fined for drug driving and driving with an expired licence.
About 10.41am on Monday 27 January, police stopped a 70-year-old Millicent man while he was driving on George Street in Millicent for a random driver test. He returned a positive reading of 0.069. Checks also revealed the man’s licence was disqualified. He was reported for drink-driving and driving while disqualified, his vehicle was impounded by police for 28 days and he will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.
