Keep it a sweet long weekend on the road

As holidaymakers take to the regions Operation Safe Holidays will be deployed state-wide from Thursday 17 to 21 April, with a focus on the Fatal Five factors that lead to road trauma.

Limestone Coast Local Service Area Superintendent Cheryl Brown said people using local roads can expect a police presence.

“Locally, there were two lives lost and four serious injuries during the Easter long weekend last year,” Superintendent Brown said.

“If you’re travelling this Easter, consider the distance you need to travel by planning your rest stops every two hours and the weather conditions.

“Stick to the speed limits and remember on country roads the speed limit is 100 km/h unless signed.”

In 2024 there were three lives lost and 18 serious injuries incurred as a result of road trauma during the Easter long weekend on South Australian roads.

Across the state, South Australia Police will have a visible presence at venues across the Adelaide metropolitan and regional roads across ensuring community safety.

This Easter, police urge road users to keep it sweet on the roads by not taking risks.
