Truck Driver’s road to ruin

19 Dec 2024 11:58am

A truck driver will face court after allegedly assaulting police officers yesterday.

Just before 1pm on Wednesday 18 December, police from Heavy Vehicle Enforcement Unit conducted a compliance intercept on a B-Double Combination truck travelling towards Adelaide on the Dukes Highway, stopping the silver Kenworth prime mover near Coomandook.

The driver, a 58-year-old man from the mid-north, was spoken to by police allegedly returning a positive result to a roadside alcotest. Police will allege the man became aggressive towards police and spat on one of the officers, the spit landing on their uniform. The man was placed under arrest and allegedly resisted police.

He was taken to the Murray Bridge Police Station where he subsequently failed to comply with a breath analysis test. He was charged with aggravated assault, assault a prescribed emergency service worker, fail to comply with a breath analysis, drive under the influence and resist arrest. The man was refused bail to appear in the Murray Bridge Magistrates Court today.

He was issued an instant 12-month loss of licence. His vehicle was defected and impounded for 28 days.
