The search for missing man Steven in the Ngarkat Conservation Park was completed yesterday evening.
Steven is 62 years and was last seen at Lobethal on Friday 28 February. Police and family have concerns for his welfare. Steven is described as slim build with grey hair and a goatee, and was last seen wearing a beige coloured t-shirt, long pants and one thong.
Police focused their search on that area after Steven’s vehicle was located abandoned on the West Boundary Track of the Ngarkat Conservation Park on Sunday 2 March.
Over the last five days, police from Murray Mallee LSA, Star Group, Mounted Operations Unit, State Operations Support Branch, PolAir as well as local SES volunteers have conducted foot and aerial searches of the vicinity where the vehicle was located, as well as searches through tracks and scrub within the Conservation Park.
Officer in Charge of Murray Mallee LSA, Superintendent Cynthia Healey said unfortunately despite these searches, Steven has still not been located.
“The efforts of those involved in the search over the past week have been exhaustive. The terrain we have been searching has been dense and difficult to search,” Superintendent Healey said.
“I’d like to thank the SES volunteers, as well as the police resources who travelled to assist our local resources."
“I am certain that all of the area accessible to the search team by air and foot has been searched. However, I won’t rule out the possibility of searching this area again if further information is provided which hasn’t been available to us at this time.”
Investigators will now review the available information and identify any further avenues of investigations to locate Steven.
Anyone who sees Steven or has any information on his whereabouts is asked to contact the police assistance line on 131 444 and quote reference #59133
