Murray Mallee Police were busy on the Easter Long Weekend keeping South Australians and visitors safe on our roads.
Around 1.30am on Friday 18th April, Police stopped a Ford ute travelling on Sturt Highway, Blanchetown and reported an 18-year-old Kapunda man for driving while disqualified.
A 27-year-old man from Glossop was stopped at Webber Rd, Monash for a random driver test on 18 April at 12.45am. He recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.09. He was issued with a six-month instant loss of licence, his vehicle was impounded and he was reported for drink driving.
At 2.10am on 18 April, a 72-year-old man from Kerang, Victoria recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.145 on Eighteenth Street, Renmark. He was reported drink driving, issued with a six-month instant loss of licence and his vehicle was also impounded.
Just before midday on 18 April, a 30-year-old man from Mildura, Victoria was detected by a patrol mobile radar driving at 160kph in a 110kph zone on Sturt Highway, Stockyard Plain. The driver was issued with an expiation notice for speeding and issued a six-month instant loss of licence.
Just before 7.30pm on 18 April, police stopped a driver on Ral Ral Avenue, Renmark for mobile driver testing. After an initial positive alcotest the driver subsequently failed to comply with police directions to complete a breath analysis. The 43-year-old man from Chaffey was reported for failing to comply with a breath analysis and was issued a 12-month instant loss of licence. His vehicle was impounded for 28 days.
Just after 9pm on 18 April, Police stopped a Holden station wagon on South Punyelroo Road, Punyelroo for driver testing. The 24-year-old male driver was subsequently reported for drink driving after blowing 0.08. He was issued a six-month instant loss of licence.
On 19 April, at about 8.30pm, a traffic stop was conducted on Kings Riverside Drive, Cadell, after police observed a 23-year-old Balaklava man conduct a sustained wheel spin. He subsequently recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.132. He was reported for misuse a motor vehicle and drink driving. His vehicle was impounded and he was issued an instant loss of licence for six months.
A 31-year-old man from Loxton North has been reported on 19 April at 2.20pm for driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle on French Rd, Loxton North, as well as three counts of driving disqualified, which was captured on CCTV. His vehicle was impounded.
At 7.15pm on 19 April, a 36-year-old woman from Point Pass was stopped by police on High St, Morgan for a random driver test. She recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.144 and was reported for drink driving. She was issued an instant loss of licence for six months and the vehicle she was driving was impounded for 28 days.
A 34-year-old Renmark bike rider was arrested at 8.30pm on 19 April for riding a bicycle at night without lights. The recidivist bicycle offender has been issued with over 35 expiation notices for similar offending in the past few years. He was also located in possession of methamphetamine after he was arrested and is required to attend a drug diversion.
A 54-year-old man from Murray Bridge was reported for drink driving. He is alleged to have driven on Princes Highway, Tailem Bend at 11.21pm on 19 April with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.179. He was issued a 12-month instant loss of licence.
A 58-year-old woman from Blanchetown was reported for drink driving at 12.30am on 20 April. She was stopped by police on Murraylands Road, Blanchetown and recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.083. She was issued a six-month loss of licence.
Just before 2am on 20 April, Police detected a Holden sedan travelling at 140 km/h in a 110 km/h on Sturt Highway, Monash. The vehicle was stopped by police and the 29-year-old female driver from Berri recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.129. She was issued with an expiation notice for speeding and was reported for drink driving. She was also issued with a six-month loss of licence and her vehicle was impounded for 28 days.
Four drivers were detected drug driving over the Easter long weekend in the Riverland area. Positive drug wipes to cannabis and methylamphetamine were detected by police. Forensic analysis will determine if drivers have charges laid for drug driving. Driver direction notices were issued to stop each driver from driving for 24 hours.
