16 Apr 2025 6:53am

Berri police have reported a man for drink driving after being stopped on the Old Sturt Highway yesterday morning.

About 7.20am on Tuesday 15 April, a Riverland highway patrol stopped a Ford SUV on the Old Sturt Highway at Berri and submitted the driver to a breath test.

He allegedly produced a blood alcohol reading of 0.162, more than three times the limit for a fully licensed driver. However, checks on the driver revealed he was only the holder of a P1 licence.

The driver, an 18-year-old man from Winkie, was reported for drink driving and breaching the conditions of his P1 licence. He was issued with a 12 month instant loss of licence and the vehicle he was driving was impounded for a period of 28 days. He will be summoned to appear in the Berri Magistrates Court at a later date.
