Arson of house at Waterloo Corner

Just after 9.45 pm, Thursday 2 January, Emergency Services were called to a Symes Road property after reports a house was engulfed in flames.

MFS crews rushed to the scene and managed to bring the fire under control however it was completely destroyed by the fire.

Police located an occupant of the house nearby and he was taken to hospital for an assessment.

Following investigations, the 27-year-old man from the address was arrested and charged with arson and assault. Thankfully neither him or the other occupant were injured as a result of the fire.

Fire Cause Investigators, Crime Scene Investigators and Northern District Detectives attended the scene to conduct an examination of the scene.

He has been refused police bail and is expected to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court today.
