Pair arrested in stolen car

03 Apr 2025 6:33am

A man and a woman were arrested in the northern suburbs after being caught by a member of the public in stolen car last night.

About 9.40pm on Wednesday 2 April, a member of the public contacted police to advise there was a dumped Hyundai Accent on Prominent Rise at Hillbank.

Checks revealed the Hyundai Accent, which was bearing unassigned plates, was stolen from a Salisbury Plain shopping centre carpark on 22 March.

A woman from the car was located and detained by the witness.  Patrols arrived and arrested the woman, a 32-year-old from the states Mid-North, and charged her with illegal use of a motor vehicle and unlawful possession.

Further enquires led police to Riversdale Drive at Salisbury Park where they located the second offender running along the street.  Police stopped and questioned the out of breath man.  The 40-year-old man from Salisbury Park was arrested without incident and charged with illegal use of a motor vehicle, driving whilst being disqualified, unlawful possession, and failing to truly answer questions.

The pair were granted police bail to appear in Elizabeth Magistrates Court on 22 May.

The car was towed from the scene and will be examined by crime scene investigators.
