A man and woman have been arrested after an incident at Golden Grove.
Just before 7.30pm last night (Monday 16 December), police were called to a Golden Grove Shopping Centre following reports of theft.
It is alleged that a 30-year-old man from Elizabeth Vale and a 28-year-old woman with no fixed address attempted to steal items from a store by placing them in a pram and trolley and exiting through a fire exit without paying. Store staff observed the man leaving the store and get into a white Holden sedan and drive away. Meanwhile, the woman remained inside the shop and continued to fill her trolley before also attempting to leave through the emergency exit. She rejoined the man, who had returned with the vehicle.
A scuffle ensued when staff tried to intervene, with members of the public assisting in restraining the man. The woman then drove the vehicle towards the group, causing the witnesses to release the man for their safety. Both suspects fled the scene on foot, leaving the vehicle behind.
Police arrived promptly and located both suspects a short distance away.
The man has been charged with two counts of assault, theft and minor drug offences. He has been bailed to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on 4 February.
