Police have arrested a man after a pursuit at Salisbury.

It will be alleged that just before 8.40pm today (Wednesday 30 October), police attempted to stop a white Holden ute on Commercial Road when it sped off.

Police pursued the car for several minutes before it stopped near the intersection of Ponton Street and Fenden Road and the driver ran from the vehicle.

Police searched the area and the driver was found in a backyard on Carney Close.

A search of the car uncovered an amount of heroin and methamphetamine and a small sword.

The driver was directed to submit to an oral drug test which he refused.

The 46-year-old Salisbury East man has been charged with dangerous driving to escape police pursuit, traffic a controlled drug, possession of a controlled drug, fail to comply with direction and possession of prohibited weapon.

He was refused police bail and will appear before the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Thursday 31 October.

He was issued a six-month instant loss of licence, and his vehicle was impounded.
