Stolen bike spotted at extreme speed in Salisbury

05 Jul 2024 6:36am

A motorcyclist was arrested yesterday after being clocked at extreme speeds in the northern suburbs.

Just before 3pm on Thursday 4 July, a patrol observed a red and black Suzuki motorcycle overtake the patrol on Salisbury Highway, Parafield Gardens at high speed. The patrol contacted police communications who advised Polair who were flying overhead at the time.

PolAir monitored the bike as it headed through backstreets of Parafield Gardens, Salisbury North and Salisbury.  It will be alleged the bike reached speeds of up to 160 km/h in a 60 km/h zone on Salisbury Highway.

The motorcycle was tracked to a unit block on Salisbury Highway and patrols quickly moved in. Cordons were established and the bike and clothing belonging to the rider were located in the yard of one of the units. The rider, a 29-year-old Salisbury man, was arrested inside the unit just before 4pm.

Police conducted checks on the motorcycle and identified it to be bearing false plates. The correct registration of the motorcycle was identified which revealed the motorcycle was stolen from a Wynn Vale address in January 2023.

Further checks on the rider identified that the man was currently disqualified from holding a driver’s licence.

The man was charged with aggravated extreme speed, drive disqualified, unlawful possession, drive with unassigned plates and illegal use.

He was refused bail and will appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court today.
