Stolen property found at Burton

One man has been arrested after police found drugs, a clandestine laboratory and a million dollars’ worth of property at a Burton address yesterday.

Investigations into stolen property led Northern District Police to a Burton address about 10.30am on Wednesday 5 June.

It will be alleged officers found a large cache of stolen property, including vehicles, earthmoving equipment, horse buggies and shipping containers.

Numerous trucks, industrial trailers, bobcats, four-wheel drives, forklifts of all kinds including maritime, are included among the haul.

Approximately 20 shipping containers, some stacked three-high, suspected of being stolen and containing additional stolen goods, including tools and safes, were located on the site.

It is estimated that it will take several days to inventory the property located, which is estimated to be valued at up to one million dollars.

Police will endeavour to match stolen property to theft reports and return items and vehicles to their owners and ask anyone who recognises any of the stolen property to contact police.

Chief Inspector Andrew McCracken, Northern District, said, “Police have already started identifying property to return it to its owners, but we suspect there will be a lot of property here that may not have been reported stolen or is difficult to identify.

Police also allegedly uncovered a quantity of methamphetamine and a clandestine laboratory in one of the shipping containers and are working to dismantle the lab.

A 41-year-old Burton man located on the property was arrested and charged with trafficking in a controlled drug, possess prescribed equipment, theft and unlawful possession.

He was refused police bail and will appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court later today.
