Three teenagers have been arrested after allegedly breaking into a home and stealing a car before crashing it in the northern suburbs earlier this morning.
About 12.10am on Wednesday 13 November, police were travelling on Midway Road at Elizabeth Downs when they spotted a car on its side on the western footpath. They approached the car and saw three people running north on Midway Road.
Northern District patrols set up cordons and located three youths nearby on Hamblynn Road. All three were arrested without incident; the alleged driver, a 14-year-old boy from Oaklands Park, and two passengers, a 17-year-old boy from Blakeview and a 14-year-old boy from Huntfield Heights.
Checks revealed the car had been stolen earlier in the night from an Elizabeth North address. Police will allege the suspects entered the home whilst the occupants were asleep and stolen the victim’s wallet and car keys, and a Ford utility vehicle was stolen from the garage.
There was considerable damage to the passenger side of the vehicle, and it was towed from the scene for forensic examination.
The driver was charged with aggravated serious criminal trespass, theft, illegal use, driving unlicenced, driving without due care, leaving the scene of a crash and breach of bail. The other two passengers were charged with aggravated serious criminal trespass and theft. They were all refused bail and will appear in Elizabeth Youth Court today (Wednesday 13 November).
