Trespasser chased through Modbury Heights

11 Apr 2025 6:44am

A man was arrested after allegedly being caught in a backyard and chased by the homeowner at Modbury Heights overnight.

Police were called to Modbury Heights about 12.45am on Friday 11 April by a man who had confronted a stranger in his backyard and was now chasing him down Kingfisher Drive.

The caller chased the suspect for a couple of kilometres, through back streets, a reserve and a creek, all the while keeping police updated on his location.

The chase wound its way back to Baraga Grove, where the victim detained the suspect until patrols arrived.

A backpack discarded by the man was later found to contain two knives and a screwdriver.

The 37-year-old Modbury Heights man was arrested and charged with being unlawfully on premises, assault, carry offensive weapon, and give false details.

He was taken to hospital to be checked out.  He is expected to be bailed to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on 28 May.

The victim sustained minor injuries in a scuffle with the offender but did not require medical treatment.
