02 Jul 2024 4:00pm

A man has been arrested after PolAir tracked a stolen car through the southern suburbs.

It will be alleged that about 1.30pm today (Tuesday 2 July), a woman reported seeing her red Hyundai Elantra sedan in a car park on The Parade West at Oaklands Park.

The car had been reported stolen by the victim several days ago.

Patrols attended the scene and road spikes were successfully used to try and stop the car, but it sped off and headed east on Oaklands Road.

The police helicopter was used to follow the vehicle as it travelled through the southern suburbs, colliding with two other cars driven by members of the public, with one of the crashes occurring on Angas Road, Westbourne Park. There were no reports of any injuries.

The Hyundai turned right on to Goodwood Road and then was abandoned near the intersection of Harvey Avenue. The driver and sole occupant was arrested soon after.

The 54-year-old man of no fixed address will face numerous charges including illegal use of a motor vehicle and other traffic offences.
