Man arrested at Christie Downs fire

12 Jun 2024 6:37am

A man was arrested at Christie Downs after police responded to reports of a fire at a construction site.

Just before 6am on Wednesday 12 June, construction workers arrived early to commence work on a new school on McKinna Road, Christie Downs and found a small rubbish fire near a newly constructed building.  Workers acted quickly to grab a hose and commence extinguishing the fire.

Patrols arrived quickly and searched the area.  They spotted a man hiding and after a brief foot chase apprehended the suspect.

The 22-year-old Christie Downs man was arrested and charged with arson and unlawfully on premises.  He was bailed to appear in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court on 26 July.

Thanks to the quick fire-fighting efforts of the construction workers, there was minimal damage to the building.

Crime scene investigators will attend the scene this morning.
