Car meet-up foiled by PolAir

08 Jun 2024 12:48pm

A teen has been charged after allegedly doing a burn out at St Kilda overnight.

Just before 11pm last night (Friday 7 July) PolAir were called to Coleman Road after a vigilant member of the public reported that there was a group of cars gathered at the location and they suspected they may be there to conduct burnouts.

When PolAir got overhead they observed a silver Ford sedan conduct a burn out before speeding away driving dangerously. PolAir were able to track the car as it headed north into the Waterloo Corner area and called for Northern Patrols to try and intercept it.

The car then travelled into the back streets of Burton where a patrol attempted to pull it over on Shepley Crescent. Here the Ford failed to stop and took off away from the patrol. The patrol didn’t pursue the vehicle as, unknown to the Ford driver, PolAir was still overhead easily tracking the vehicle as it headed back to Waterloo Corner.

Thinking they had lost police the Ford stopped on Tozer Road and the driver got out. Here other patrols swooped in and managed to grab the driver as he allegedly attempted to run from police.

The driver, a 17-year-old Salisbury Downs teen, was arrested and has been charged with fail to stop for police, driving at a speed dangerous and misuse of a motor vehicle.

He lost his licence on the spot for 12 months and his car was towed from the scene and impounded. He was bailed to appear at the Elizabeth Youth Court 12 July.
