A driver was arrested after crashing into a tree at Salisbury Heights.

Just before midday on Sunday 29 December, a car crashed into a tree in the median strip of Main North Road, Salisbury Heights.

The driver was allegedly attempting to leave the scene but was quickly apprehended by police.

The 34-year-old Elizabeth Vale man was arrested for driving without due care and other traffic offences.  He was taken to hospital for minor injuries and mandatory drug and alcohol testing.

Police checks revealed he only holds a learner's permit and did not have L-plates or a qualified driver present.

The car was towed from the scene.

Investigations into the crash are ongoing.

The man did not apply for bail and will appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Monday.
