Drink driver crashes into Veranda in North Adelaide

A drink driver crashed his car into a veranda in North Adelaide last night.

Just before 11.45pm, Wednesday 17 July, police were called to a business on Ward Street after reports a black Suzuki crashed into a veranda, knocking a support pole out of place.

Patrols were quickly on scene and located a witness who pointed out that the driver got out of the vehicle and walked away, east from the crash scene. Police were able to quickly catchup with the driver, a short distance away.

The driver, a 22-year-old man from Ingle Farm was spoken to by police and submitted to a breath test where he returned a positive result of 0.090. Further checks on the driver revealed that he was a P-plater.

Thankfully, the man did not sustain any injuries from the crash but the vehicle was not driveable and was towed from the scene. The veranda was secured and made safe by emergency crews.

He was reported for drink driving, breaching his P-licence conditions and aggravated due care, he was also issued with a 6-month loss off licence.

He will be summonsed to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court at a later date.
