Operation Vailo returns over 200 road safety offence detections

South Australia Police detected 212 road safety offences across metropolitan Adelaide and surrounds as a part of Operation Vailo last weekend.

Operation Vailo was conducted from Thursday 14 to 17 November 2024 and returned 45 drink driving detections, 31 drug driving detections and detected 136 other road safety offences.

An incident of note involved a 24-year-old Taperoo man detected for drug driving on War Memorial Drive, Adelaide. He produced a false driver’s licence and was arrested for driving unlicensed, illegal use, unlawful possession and dishonest dealings with documents. He was also issued with an Immediate Loss of Licence.

Traffic Services Branch Superintendent Darren Fielke said it was no secret that police would be conducting proactive road safety activities during the Vailo Adelaide 500 weekend.

“The Adelaide Vailo 500 weekend has historically been a weekend of increased road safety offence detections,” Superintendent Fielke said.

“This year, police made two arrests, issued 56 Immediate Loss of Licence notices and impounded 43 vehicles.

“This is a significant number of vehicles and drivers who have suffered penalties from deciding to do the wrong thing on the road.”
