Pair arrested after pursuit in northern suburbs

A man and woman have been arrested after a police pursuit in the northern suburbs overnight.

Just after 1.45 am, this morning (Wednesday 11 November), northern district patrols were on Yorktown Road at Elizabeth Downs when they attempted to stop a green Holden sedan.

The driver refused and took off at speed on Yorktown Road, patrols pursued the vehicle as it travelled through the backstreets, onto Midway Road, Halsey Road and onto Phillip Highway before its front tyre blew on Griffith Street.

The driver and passenger were arrested without incident.

Checks revealed the driver, a 26-year-old man from Elizabeth South was driving without a licence. He was charged with engaging in police pursuit, driving suspended and speed dangerous. He was refused police bail and is expected to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court later today.

The passenger, a 42-year-old Elizabeth Grove woman was searched and police located a small amount of Cannabis and prescription medication. She was charged with fail to truthfully answer, possessing prescription medication and issued a cannabis expiation notice. She was granted police bail to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Tuesday 14 January 2025.
