Pair reported after seat swap

09 Mar 2025 4:54pm

A man and woman will face court after they were caught drink driving in Whyalla Norrie yesterday.

About 4.30pm on Saturday 8 March, police spotted a white Subaru station wagon on Rusell Street at Whyalla Norrie.  Patrols followed it for a short time and stopped it on Ekblom Street for a random driver test.

Police will allege the male driver and female passenger swapped positions in the car and the woman moved it forward a short distance before being directed by police to stop.

The driver, a 21-year-old local woman, submitted to a breath test where she provided a positive result of 0.145 – nearly three times over the legal limit.  She was reported for drink driving and issued a six month immediate loss of licence.

Patrols also directed the passenger, a 23-year-old local man, to submit to a breath test however he refused and was subsequently reported for refusing a breath test and driving without a licence.  He was issued a 12 month immediate loss of licence.

The vehicle was impounded for 28 days and the pair will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.
