South Australia Police presence will increase across metropolitan Adelaide for Operation Vailo Adelaide 500, ensuring a safe event at the track and across the wider community.
Operation Commander, Chief Superintendent Scott Allison, stated that police activities will focus on crowd safety and traffic management before, during and post-event.
“As a family event taking place in the heart of Adelaide, police will have a low level of tolerance for antisocial behaviour not only on the event grounds but also at nearby areas around the track,” Chief Superintendent Allison said.
“Those who might enjoy a drink at the event should arrange a ride with a designated driver, take a taxi, or take advantage of the free Adelaide Metro public transport available to Vailo Adelaide 500 ticketholders.
“Race goers tempted to use public roads as a racetrack are advised to leave the fast driving to the professionals in a safe, controlled environment. Drivers who speed or drive dangerously face penalties, which can include a fine, vehicle impoundment and a driving disqualification.”
Road closures have been in place pre-event from 6am Friday, 8 November and will continue post-event until 6am Tuesday 19 November.
“We are expecting around 250,000 attendees across the four event days and this will significantly increase the number of drivers, cyclists and pedestrians using the local roads,” said Chief Superintendent Allison.
“Commuters traveling from Adelaide’s north-eastern suburbs can access the city via Rundle Road and Botanic Road and are advised to leave ample time for slow-moving traffic. Police continue to be present to manage traffic flow on road closure days.”
