In the lead up to Christmas, South Australia Police is alerting motorists to the increased risk of fatal and serious injury crashes on the state’s roads.
Traffic Services Branch Officer in Charge Superintendent Shane Johnson has made a plea to road users across South Australia to make it a holiday season to remember for all the right reasons.
“So far in 2024 we have seen 82 lives lost and 810 serious injuries as a result of road trauma,” said Supt Johnson.
“As we approach the end of the year – a time traditionally spent with our family and friends – there are hundreds of altered lives resulting from road trauma from this year and previous years. The impact of the loss of so many is still felt.
“The holiday season marks a busy time on South Australian roads with people taking to the roads as they go to parties, family gatherings and head to holiday destinations in country regions.”
“Whilst most drivers do the right thing on our road, the additional in traffic increases road safety hazards like speeding, dangerous driving and drink driving.
“I remind anyone using our South Australian roads – do your part to keep families and communities intact by following the road rules.
“Don’t drink or drug and drive, keep your whole focus on the road, wear your seatbelt and be patient with other drivers.”
