Witnesses sought over Fords fatal crash

21 Nov 2024 4:25pm

Major Crash officers continue to investigate a fatal crash at Fords, near Kapunda, earlier this week and are appealing for any motorists who saw the truck prior to the crash to contact police.

Just before 1pm on Tuesday 19 November, emergency services were called to the Thiele Highway at Fords after reports of a crash between a white Ford sedan and a semi-trailer.

Sadly, the driver of the Ford sedan, a 53-year-old man from Gawler, died at the scene.

The truck driver, a 79-year-old Nuriootpa man was arrested and charged with causing death by dangerous driving. He was granted police bail to appear in the Tanunda Magistrates Court on 14 January 2025.

Major Crash Investigators returned to the crash site yesterday afternoon to complete the examination and measurement of the collision.

Anyone who saw the quarry truck travelling north-east on the Thiele Highway, just prior to the crash is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000 or online at www.crimestopperssa.com.au – you can remain anonymous.

Investigators would in particular like to hear from the drivers of a white Toyota Corolla and a silver dual-cab utility who were travelling near Freeling just before the collision occurred at Fords.

The mans life is the 80th life lost on SA Roads this year.
