E-bike stolen in Marketplace theft

19 Jan 2025 7:50pm

Police are investigating a street robbery in Aberfoyle Park last night where a teenage victim arranged to meet a potential buyer to sell his e-bike.

About 8.10pm Saturday 18 January a man arrived at the victim’s home to inspect an e-bike for sale. The suspect handed over an envelope that he claimed contained cash before allegedly threatening the victim with a knife and riding away.

Thankfully the victim, a 15-year-old boy, was not physically injured. The suspect was last seen riding north on Heatherwood Drive. When the victim looked inside the envelope he found an amount of counterfeit money.

Today, Sunday 19 January, the e-bike was found crashed with extensive damage a short distance away. Crime Scene Investigators attended and examined the scene and investigations are continuing.

The suspect is described as between 18-20 years, between 180-190cm tall with a light brown complexion, short spiked hair and a small goatee/beard. He was wearing baggy white cargo pants and a light blue t-shirt.

Police are urging anyone else aware of similar offending, or anyone with information that may assist the investigation is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at www.crimestopperssa.com.au or 1800 333 000 – you can remain anonymous.

Whether using Facebook, Gumtree, eBay or any other online marketplace, always consider your safety first. Consider the following crime prevention tips if selling goods:

* Always meet in a public space that you are familiar with, ideally in an area with CCTV cameras, and during daylight hours.

* Attempt to gather details before meeting potential buyer such as person’s name, phone number and email contact.

* Tell at least one person where you are going and who you are with, consider bringing a friend/family member.

* Ask for identification of buyer, e.g driver’s licence, if they request a ‘test drive’.

* Take note of the person’s appearance and description, including their vehicle and registration number if they arrive in a car.
