Man arrested after evading police

04 Apr 2025 6:13am

A man has been arrested after a pursuit through the western suburbs last night.

Just before 11pm on Thursday 3 April, patrols attempted to stop a white Holden utility on Port Road, Adelaide. Police activated emergency lights, indicating for the driver to stop the vehicle, however the driver refused to stop. Police terminated the pursuit for safety reasons; however, the vehicle was able to be tracked through the CBD.

The vehicle exited the CBD back out to Port Road, where initially it was observed by numerous patrols and traffic management cameras heading towards Port Adelaide. Polair was called in and tracked the vehicle through the western suburbs from the air, with the vehicle reaching speeds of up to 160km/h, until eventually the vehicle stopped on Military Road at North Haven.

The driver left the vehicle but was tracked by Polair who guided patrols in to safely arrest the man without incident. Police conducted checks on the vehicle which identified it had been stolen from a Semaphore South address earlier in the night.

The driver, a 43-year-old man from Semaphore South, was breath tested, and he provided a positive result of 0.203 – more than four times the legal limit.  His licence also revealed he was disqualified from driving.

He was charged with dangerous driving to escape a police pursuit, illegal use of a motor vehicle, driving with a prescribed concentration of alcohol and driving whilst disqualified.

The man didn’t apply for bail and will appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court today.
