01 Jul 2024 7:08am

A man has been arrested driving a stolen vehicle in the Western suburbs overnight.

Just before 1.40 am, Monday 1 July, police spotted a black Ford utility in a carpark at the corner of Henley Beach Road and Tapleys Hill Road, Fulham.

Checks confirmed that the vehicle was stolen from a home in Victoria in mid-June this year.

Patrols followed the vehicle for a short distance before intercepting it on Tapleys Hill Road, the driver stopped a short distance after and was arrested by police. Further checks revealed that the driver did not hold a current drivers licence and was wanted for outstanding matters.

Following a search of the stolen vehicle, police located a flick-knife and hammer in the drivers side door pocket and recovered registration plates which were stolen from a vehicle in Bolivar, on Monday 24 June.

The vehicle was seized by police and will be examined by Crime Scene Officers.

The driver, a 24-year-old man of no fixed place, was charged with two counts of illegal use of a motor vehicle, carry an offensive weapon, possess prohibited weapon, unlawful possession and driving without a licence.

He was refused police bail and will appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court later today.
