Western District police stations will be giving out free anti-theft screws.
Western District Police continuously work in partnership with the community to help prevent theft of registration plates from parked vehicles.
Once stolen the registration plates are often used by offenders for the purpose of committing further, more serious crimes.
The use of stolen registration plates makes it harder for police to detect and investigate crimes in a timely manner.
As a crime prevention strategy Western District Community Engagement Section have provided ‘Anti-theft registration screws’ to Port Adelaide, Henley Beach and Glenelg Police Stations to be given out to members of the community at no cost. The Police stations will have a variety of ‘Anti-Theft registration plate screws’ to fit most makes and models of vehicles. Police can provide further advice on how to have them affixed by an RAA approved repairer.
Further to the availability of the ‘Anti-theft registration plate screws’ below are some other crime prevention strategies to reduce the opportunity of your vehicle registration plates being stolen:
* Secure your number plates with the ‘Anti-theft registration plate screws’.
* Check your vehicle regularly to ensure both registration plates on your vehicle are secure.
* Secure your vehicle in a locked garage where possible.
* Park your vehicle in well-lit areas.
