A man has been arrested after lighting a fire and attempting to steal a car in the western suburbs this morning.
About 7.40am on Tuesday 25 March, MFS received a report of a small fire on a footpath at the intersection of Jelley Street and Leslie Street East, Woodville. MFS crews attended the scene and extinguished the fire.
About 10 minutes later, police were called to Torrens Road at Kilkenny, after reports a man lit a small fire. Fortunately no damage was caused and no one was reported injured.
Following an investigation, police attended a house on Blight Street, Ridleyton, and arrested the suspect, a 29-year-old man.
During the arrest, the man ran from police who gave chase as he headed onto William Langman Circuit. Police will allege the man approached a car as it reversed from a driveway and opened the driver’s door in an attempt to steal it.
Police quickly intervened and attempted to arrest the suspect who resisted, a struggle ensued, and he was subdued with OC spray.
The man was charged with light fire in fire danger season, disorderly behaviour, hinder police, attempt theft of motor vehicle, assault, resist arrest and breach of bail. He was refused police bail and will appear in Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on Wednesday 26 March.
