Two arrested after failing to stop

A man and a woman have been arrested after a police pursuit through the western suburbs last night.

About 10.50pm on Friday 11 October, police spotted a car travelling on Burbridge Road at West Beach.  Checks revealed the silver Holden Commodore sedan was unregistered.

Police attempted to stop the car however it failed to stop and took off at speed as it continued heading east on Burbridge Road.

PolAir were overhead and tracked the car as it travelled at high speeds, north on Tapleys Hill Road and then through the backstreets of Fulham Gardens.

About 15 minutes later the car was successfully spiked as it headed back onto Tapleys Hill Road.  The vehicle was located abandoned on King Street a short time later.

Patrols set up cordons and the driver and passenger were swiftly arrested without incident.  The driver, a 51-year-old man from Gilles Plains was charged with dangerous driving to escape a police pursuit.  The passenger, a 40-year-old woman from Glenelg East was arrested and charged with dangerous driving to escape a police pursuit and trafficking in a controlled drug.

The pair were refused police bail and will appear in Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday 14 October.
